Vim Foundation participated in the first hearing of the legislative proposal on (Combating Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women in the Kurdistan Region), organized by the Kurdistan Parliament’s Research Center in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
Hemin Hawrami, Deputy Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, Muna Kahveci, Secretary of the parliament, Rebar Ahmed, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Interior, the head of the Independent Human Right Commission, the head of the High Council of Women Affairs, representative of the European Union, and representatives of the KRG ministries, Kurdistan Parliament’s Committee on Protection of Women’s Rights, and the international and local organizations took part in the workshop. Discussions were held on the legislative proposal and obstacles preventing implementation of the legislation, and several recommendations were presented to enrich the proposal.
It is the first time in the history of the Kurdistan Parliament that a general session is held to gather information about the draft bills that are directed by the parliamentary leadership to the committees.
